Pilates is a century-old technique developed by Joseph Pilates. While it focuses mainly on developing core strength, it takes an integrated approach to training the whole body. It involves full-body conditioning including core stability, strengthening and stretching the muscles, while focusing on quality of movement, body awareness and coordination. Pilates is beneficial to posture, core stability, flexibility, balance and stress relief. The breath-initiated movements also help to lengthen and decompress the spine and improve breathing. Pilates exercises are performed on a mat using your own body weight and occasionally props.
