Journey Fitness + Wellness Newsletter - November 26, 2023
Newsletter - November 26, 2023
With the end of the year fast approaching, I take a moment to pause and reflect back on all that I feel grateful for. Gratitude is a lens through which I choose to see life. I find my daily gratitude practice nourishing to my body, mind and spirit. It allows me to find the “calm” in the “chaos” of life and feel happy. Everyday that I get to wake up, I am grateful for this new day regardless of what it might offer – its pleasures or challenges.
One only needs to tune into any news channel to see all of the “unrest” in the world these days. How truly grateful I am to live in this beautiful country, Canada. I am also truly grateful for you being part of the Journey Fitness + Wellness community. With another year ending and a new one beginning may you find in your hearts peace, joy and happiness with each breath that you take.
Om shanti shanti
“Peace is present right here and now, in ourselves and in everything we do and see. Every breath we take, every step we take, can be filled with peace, joy and serenity. The question is whether or not we are in touch with it. We need only to be awake, alive in the present moment.” - - Thich Nhat Hanh

Book Review - - Atomic Habits, Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results by James Clear
People read for many different reasons – to learn, for entertainment, for the pure joy of reading, etc. There are so many health benefits to be experienced by reading – improved focus, memory, communication skills, reduced stress, etc. Scientific studies have found that seniors who read often may also be adding years to their life and delaying the onset of Alzheimer's and Dementia.
With another year coming to an end, I like to reflect back on my progress over the past year. I look at what went well; what didn’t go so well; what I learned to inform what I might do differently going forward into 2024 to realize my life vision.
If you are looking for some insight as to why year after year, you make and break New Year resolutions, you may want to gift yourself this book to read over the holidays. In this book, James, shares an “easy and proven way to build good habits and break bad ones”. I would have preferred the use of the terms “healthy and unhealthy habits” or “wanted and unwanted habits”. James offers us insight as to why we may not have been succeeding with keeping our resolutions or intentions to change an unwanted habit and replace it with a new one. He points out that if you’re having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn’t you. The problem may be that you have the wrong system for change. “Atomic Habits” provides a 4-step model that you can use to build better systems and build better habits and live the life you wish to live. Why not give this book a read and learn how you can “set up your environment to make the good behaviors easier and the unwanted ones harder”and experience the “power of atomic habits – tiny changes, remarkable results.”
“Lack of self-awareness is poison. Reflection and review is the antidote.” - - James Clear
